Have your say: Review of the Associations Act 2003

Published

The Northern Territory Government is inviting feedback from the community as part of a review of the Associations Act 2003, ensuring the legislation continues to meet the needs of incorporated associations across the Territory.

Incorporated associations play a vital role in the Northern Territory, supporting community initiatives, delivering local services and strengthening business and industry networks.

Reason for the review

The review will ensure the legislative framework that governs these organisations remains robust, fit-for-purpose and responsive to the contemporary needs of associations.

The review follows recent legislative changes to incorporated association tier levels to reduce administrative burdens for many smaller associations.

Stage 2 of the review will now focus on strengthening areas such as compliance, governance and dispute resolution, while ensuring the Territory’s regulatory settings remain aligned with other jurisdictions across Australia.

Give feedback

Territorians can share their views by going to the Have Your Say website.

Consultation closes 20 March 2026.

The following groups are encouraged to give feedback:

  • incorporated associations
  • businesses
  • industry groups
  • community organisations
  • government agencies
  • members of the public.
