Have your say on the next round of NT Government procurement reforms

Published

The Northern Territory Government is seeking feedback from Territory businesses and industry stakeholders on proposed procurement reforms aimed at making it easier to do business with government.

In 2025, the NT Government introduced changes to simplify low-value purchasing, reduce red tape and make it easier for government agencies to buy goods and services from local Territory businesses.

Building on these changes, the NT Government is now considering a second round of procurement reforms to further improve tendering processes, strengthen accountability and transparency, and reduce administrative barriers for businesses.

What's being proposed?

The next round of procurement reforms will consider:

  • publishing budget ranges with tenders to help businesses better understand government expectations and requirements
  • improving guidance on multi-stage tenders to improve tender outcomes and reduce the effort required from businesses
  • strengthening procurement compliance and reporting to improve accountability and transparency across NT Government agencies
  • improving the Aboriginal Procurement Policy to better recognise and support Aboriginal employment
  • increasing the use of tender negotiations to improve contract outcomes and deliver greater Value for Territory
  • modernising the NT Government's liability framework to achieve a fairer balance of risk and reduce administrative barriers for businesses.

Have your say

The Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations is inviting Territory businesses, industry associations and other stakeholders to provide feedback on the proposed reforms.

Your feedback will inform the development of the next round of reforms and help identify opportunities to make government procurement processes more efficient, transparent and accessible.

Consultation is open until 16 November 2026.

To provide your feedback, complete the online survey at the Northern Territory Government Have Your Say website.
