AirAsia expands its presence in the NT
Connectivity between the Northern Territory and Asia is set to increase with the launch of AirAsia Malaysia direct service between Kuala Lumpur and Darwin.
The first flight will commence on 27 June and operate 4-weekly services using AirAsia’s Airbus A321 aircraft.
Territorians will once again have access to an affordable, direct service to Asia, unlocking seamless travel to some of the most in-demand destinations, including Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and India.
Operating four times weekly, this new route will offer greater accessibility for both leisure and business travelers, supporting tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between the Northern Territory and Asia.
The service will also provide a crucial link for international visitors, boosting inbound tourism and increasing expenditure that will benefit local tourism operators, accommodation providers, and the hospitality sector.
The new international services; Kuala Lumpur and Bali, will see AirAsia Group operate a total of 7-weekly flights from Darwin.
This marks the fourth new direct route announcement for the Northern Territory since the beginning of this year, including:
- Indonesia AirAsia 3-weekly service Darwin – Bali
- Airnorth 3-weekly service Alice Springs – Cairns
- Jetstar 3-weekly service Darwin- Gold Coast
- AirAsia Malaysia 4-weekly service Darwin – Malaysia
