Biz Secure program gets an upgrade

Published

The Northern Territory Government is making changes to the Biz Secure program to better support Territory businesses to improve their security against the risk of break-ins.

From 1 July 2022, individual Territory businesses can access up to $15,000 to make a range of permanent security improvements to their premises.

The co-contribution for Biz Secure has also been reduced to 25:75 where the works are improving the physical security of the business. This means individual businesses and cluster applications in these cases only have to contribute 25% of the cost of works while the Biz Secure voucher covers up to 75% of the total.

There is now also a list of pre-approved standard improvements that can be funded without the need for a security audit. This will allow eligible businesses to carry out physical security improvement jobs more quickly.

The Re-secure Program, which is administered by Victims of Crimes NT has been updated to better support businesses that have experienced a break-in, to re-secure their premises. Under the updated Re-secure Program businesses can access a maximum of $1,000 per incident for the remainder of 2022.

The scope of works for Biz Secure has also been expanded to now include some internal crime prevention works such as bolstering alcohol storage security.

The new changes for both programs come into effect on 1 July 2022.
