Aviation
The Northern Territory Government’s vision to develop ongoing aviation access for the NT is overseen by the Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations with close engagement across the departments of Tourism and Hospitality, and Lands, Planning and Environment.
Access to affordable airfares to support the Territory’s economic development and liveability standards is a priority.
It is essential that the Territory encourages a competitive aviation landscape, improving consumer choice, access to essential travel for business, education and healthcare as well as inbound tourism opportunities to grow our visitor economy.
The Northern Territory Government knows that aviation connectivity between the Territory and the rest of Australia (and internationally) is fundamental for corporations to conduct business.
Connectivity also allows friends and relatives to keep in touch, creating a positive lifestyle and environment.
The Northern Territory Government is taking a collaborative approach with industry stakeholders, including airport operators in the NT, to achieve commercially sustainable aviation services that connects Territorians with the rest of Australia and the world, and makes the NT accessible to visitors.
The Territory Aviation Attraction Scheme is a key program to support this and aims to attract new domestic and international services to Darwin, and incremental air capacity to Central Australia.
Find out more about the scheme on the Tourism NT website.
